Goodbye, 2019: Ruddhi Vichare

Painter and ceramist Ruddhi Vichare has been responsible for creating all the pretty bowls and cups I use at home, and for making my day every time she has posted new work. I was thrilled to interview her as part of the Goodbye, 2019 series:

The nicest thing you did for someone in 2019?

Honestly, I feel I have been on the receiving end of the nicest things. So I'm grateful for such persons in my life.

The book that helped you the most in 2019? I find biographies of painters and ceramists helpful, like Beatrice Wood, Hans Coper, Lucie Rie, V S Gaitonde, Lucian Freud, Vincent Van Gogh to name a few. It's interesting to see where these artists came from, how they lived their life, what were their thoughts/feelings at a certain junction and how it impacted or influenced their work.

The song you heard on loop this year?

Signals by Júníus Meyvant & Spring 1 (Vivaldi) recomposed by Max Richter

The film/TV show you fell head over heels in love with?

The Shawshank Redemption is my number 1 film of all time.

Your biggest accomplishment this year? Can't come up with anything specific as such. To be able to independently pursue a non-conventional career everyday without succumbing to typical societal pressure about what to do and how to go about living life feels like an accomplishment in itself.

Your big 2019 lesson? Forgive - Forget - Focus. The Three F's. Who are you creative crushing on lately?

I adore illustrations. My latest crushes have been Kit Boyd and JooHee Yoon. A recent epiphany you've had? Grass is just as green on THIS side. It's easier to get carried away with what could be greener on the other side and lose perspective of what's working in favour at present.

What’s your number one bucket list item for 2020?

I'm hoping work takes me places I haven't visited so far. My personal goal is to literally talk to as many people as I can. (This is coming from an introvert- it is really challenging. We are too busy in our own worlds. :P) Rate 2019 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being Totally Sucked.

I'd say 7. It's been a roller coaster ride, but just as much about growing and learning on the personal front. :)

Thank you, Ruddhi. Good luck with everything! :)
